Greg Brown earns Tip-off Club's Coach of the Year honors

Several area basketball players were honored as the Northwest Georgia Tip-Off Club hosted its 28th annual basketball banquet this past week at Berry College in Rome.

Northwest Whitfield was chosen Team of the Year for high school girls, with Lady Bruins coach Greg Brown named Coach of the Year for high school girls.

Each of the club’s 27 member high schools also had a Player of the Year honored. Chosen from schools in Murray and Whitfield counties were Dalton’s Hannah Cox and Emier Bowman, Murray County’s McKenzie Carroll and Cesar Romero, North Murray’s Kara Deal and Noah Allen and Northwest Whitfield’s Halle Ford and Caleb Storey.

The club’s five member colleges also each had a Player of the Year honored, with Dalton State College’s Preston Earle selected for the Roadrunners.

Among middle schools, Whitfield County’s Westside boys and New Hope girls were chosen as Teams of the Year, with the Rockets’ Keith Bingham and the Lady Kodiaks’ Casey Kyer chosen as Coaches of the Year.

Northwest’s girls were also chosen as a Team of the Month for January, with Brown selected as a Coach of the Month.

Players of the Month for December were Dalton’s Sarah Hartshorn and Bowman, Murray County’s Holly Stanfield and Jagger Childers, North Murray’s Grace Phillips and Hinton McConkey and Northwest’s Mallory Souther and Andy Whisenant.

Players of the Month for January were Dalton’s Cox and Braxton Thomas, Murray County’s Caitlyn Sims and Nick Stiles, North Murray’s Megan Pittman and Drake McCowan and Northwest’s Macy Weeks and Caleb Branson.

Dalton State men’s basketball coach Tony Ingle was among the special guests at the banquet.
