Miller, Mariners off to NAIA title tournament

Former Dalton High School golf standout Chase Miller is finishing his senior year at College of Coastal Georgia on a high note.

On Monday, Miller was named a Southern States Athletic Conference All-Conference selection at the season ending awards banquet held the night after play began in the conference tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

On Wednesday, Miller finished ninth overall individually with a three-round total of 5-over par 221 to help lead the Mariners — No. 4 in the nation in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics rankings — to a second-place finish to No 15 Faulkner University. Faulkner shot a team total of 873 on the par-72 Lagoon Park course in Montgomery and finished 11 strokes better than Coastal Georgia.

Faulkner and Coastal Georgia will both receive automatic bids to the NAIA National Championship, which will be held at the LPGA International Hogan Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. on May 13-16.
