Middle school roundup: New Hope earns soccer sweep

New Hope’s girls soccer team scored scored more than enough times for a 6-0 win Thursday at host Gladden to stay undefeated through five matches this season.

Josselin Paz scored twice for the Lady Kodiaks, who are 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Whitfield County Middle School Athletic League. Esmerelda Melendez, Joanna Peralta, Rosalinda Quintero and Jenni Torres each scored once in the game.

Cynthia Paniagua, Peralta and Torres all played in goal for New Hope, which is tied with North Whitfield for second place with 10 points.

Gladden fell to 0-5 in league matches.

Eastbrook girls 6, Westside 0: Ester Paniagua scored three times to lead the Lady Mustangs, who are first place in the league standings with 12 points through four matches.

Ebony McDermott scored twice and added an assist for Eastbrook (4-0-1) and Anna Perez scored once, assisted by Paniagua. Saira Carrillo and Jazmin Ortiz each recorded an assist, and goalkeeper Ally Chaves earned her fifth shutout through five games.

Eastbrook visits New Hope on April 10 in an important game with implications on the league standings.

Westside coaches did not report individual statistics by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.

New Hope boys 2, Gladden 1: The Kodiaks (3-2, 2-2) earned the sweep Thursday with a late goal from Luis Soria.

Carlos Martinez also scored once for New Hope, which is tied with Bagley and Valley Point at third place in the league standings with six points.

Jesus Capistran scored the lone goal for Gladden, which fell to 1-4 in league matches.

Eastbrook boys 5, Westside 0: Pablo Alvarez, Jorge Dominguez, Antonio Fraire, Adrian Garcia and Andres Hernandez each scored once for the Mustangs, who are 4-1 overall and 4-0 in league matches. Eastbrook and North Whitfield are tied atop the league standings with 12 points.

Alexander, Alex Flores and Jose Santizo spliced up playing time at goalkeeper to earn the shutout. Westside coaches did not report individual statistics by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.
